It is situated in Yeşilköy, on the European side of the city, at a distance of 15 kilometers southwest of the city centre. The airport was named after Mustafa Kemala Atatürk to commemorate the founder and the first President of the Republic of Turkey. In 2012, the airport was used by over 45 million passengers. It was included among the 40 largest airports in the world in terms of passenger traffic. There are three terminals here: one international (Terminal A), one domestic (Terminal B) and one cargo (Terminal C). Istanbul International Airport Hotel is located at international terminal A. Two other hotels at the airport are: Radisson SAS Conference and Airport Hoteloraz Polat Renaissance Istanbul Hotel. Due to the transfer of all traffic to the new airport in the Istanbul suburbs - Istanbul Airport (IST), on April 6, 2019 the Atatürk airport was closed for commercial passenger flights.
